Em 14 de maio de 2005, o piloto de testes da Eurocopter Didier Delsalle aterrissou um AS350 B3 modificado no cume exato do Monte Everest a 8.848 metros (29.029 ft), primeira vez na história que um helicóptero pousou no ponto mais alto da Terra. Recorde homologado pela FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) e nunca superado. O voo provou capacidade de hot/high do Arriel 2B em condições limítrofes (ar rarefeito, vento forte, temperatura -35°C). Aircraft B3 modificado com peso reduzido e equipamentos especiais.
O AS350 B3 evoluiu para AS350 B3e em 2011, adicionou MTOW aumentado para 2.370 kg, VEMD melhorado, cabine 7 PAX opcional e Arriel 2D (mesma família 2B mas otimizado). Em 2014, com a unificação da marca Airbus Helicopters (ex-Eurocopter), o AS350 B3e foi rebranded como H125. Modelo continua em produção em 2024 com 5.000+ unidades cumulativas (toda família AS350), bestseller absoluto Airbus civil.

O AS350 B3 tem hover ceiling out-of-ground-effect de 11.880 ft com MTOW 2.250 kg, performance hot/high superior a qualquer concorrente single-turbine da categoria (Bell 407, R66, Bell 206). Operadores em mineração no Andes (Chile, Peru, Bolívia), regate alpino (Suíça, França, Itália), Heli-Ski (Canadá, Alaska) e operações em altitudes brasileiras (Brasília, BH, Goiás) escolhem B3 pela margem de segurança hot/high. Único single-turbine que opera com tranquilidade em DAs >9.000 ft.
O Arriel 2B do B3 entrega 847 shp vs. 732 shp do Arriel 1D1 do B2, diferença de 15% que se traduz em melhor performance, payload e altitude. FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) substitui controle manual, simplificando operação em altitudes/temperaturas extremas. TBO de 4.000 horas (vs. 3.500 do Arriel 1) reduz custo direto operacional. Motor mais 'easy on pilot' em hover preciso e takeoff em pistas curtas/elevadas.
Como todo AS350, o B3 é certificado VFR single-engine, fora dos requisitos Petrobras para offshore (que exige twin-engine IFR-CAT A). Mercado offshore brasileiro padronizou em AW139, S-76 e H225 desde 2010. AS350 B3 fica em utility onshore, mineração, EMS, polícia, ENG, executivo. Limitação técnica é única do single-engine, não impede operações onshore comerciais relevantes.
AS350 B3 dominou o segmento Heli-Ski mundial, operadores como CMH Heli-Skiing (British Columbia, Canada), Last Frontier (Alaska) e Heli-Ski Iceland operam frotas exclusivamente B3 em DAs até 12.000 ft. No Brasil, mineradoras Vale, Anglo American e CSN usam B3/H125 para inspeção de barragens, transporte de geólogos para minas remotas no Pará/MG/MT e suporte logístico em projetos isolados. Capacidade hot/high é decisiva.
