Agusta certificou o A109 Power em 1996, substituiu o A109 Mk II (1981-1996) com motores PW206C/Arrius 2K1 mais potentes (640-679 shp vs. 450 shp do C20R do Mk II), MTOW aumentado para 2.850 kg e cabine modernizada. Após fusão Agusta+Westland em 2000, virou AgustaWestland AW109 Power. Produção em Vergiate (Itália) até 2014, quando substituído pelo AW109 GrandNew (2008+) com avionics modernos e cabine evoluída. Mais de 280 unidades produzidas.
