Frank Robinson certificou o R44 em dezembro de 1992 como evolução natural do R22, mesma filosofia de simplicidade e custo baixo, mas com 4 lugares e potência para missões reais. Primeira entrega em fevereiro de 1993. Em pouco mais de uma década o R44 ultrapassou todos os concorrentes pistão (Schweizer 300, Enstrom F28) e virou bestseller global. Em 2024 acumula mais de 6.500 unidades, recorde absoluto entre helicópteros de qualquer categoria.
- 2016 - R44 Cadet (2016) reabriu o mercado de treinamento turbinizado
Em 2016, Robinson lançou o R44 Cadet, versão biplace (cabine traseira removida) com MTOW reduzido para 1.000 kg e motor downrated para 210 hp. Custo USD 339.000 contra USD 510.000 do Raven I full. Objetivo: oferecer plataforma de treinamento avançado entre R22 (steam gauges, biplace) e Raven II (4 lugares, IFR-capable). Operadores em altitudes brasileiras como Brasília, Belo Horizonte e Goiânia frequentemente preferem o Raven II (motor IO-540 injetado, 245 hp full power) para garantia de performance no verão.
