Decisão estratégica: a Robinson percebeu que clientes Raven II queriam upgrade natural sem sair da família e o mercado de Bell 206 (descontinuado em 2010) deixou um vácuo no segmento entry-level turbine. Em 2024 já são 1.300+ unidades, sucesso comercial confirmado.

MSRP 2024 do R66 é USD 1.090.000, preço de turbina entry-level mas com 5 lugares (1 a mais que Raven II) e performance hot/high muito superior. Custo operacional ~USD 460/h é mais alto que Raven II (USD 295/h), porém a turbina elimina overhaul de 12 anos calendar, suaviza viagens e abre operação em altitudes elevadas. Substituiu Bell 206B JetRanger (descontinuado 2010) como turbina single mais vendida.
Hover ceiling out-of-ground-effect (OGE) do R66 é 10.000 ft, performance hot/high comparável ao AS350 B3 em algumas condições. Permite operação em fazendas de altitude no Brasil (Cerrado mineiro a 4.000+ ft com 35°C dia), missões em Mato Grosso/Mato Grosso do Sul e até resgates em Serra do Mar. Service ceiling de 14.000 ft é certificado, mas operação prática vai até 8.000-10.000 ft com payload completo.
O R66 só é certificado VFR, não tem certificação IFR completa nem alternativa twin engine. Para operações executivas que exigem IFR (transporte VIP em São Paulo com mau tempo, offshore Petrobras com weather mins) operadores escolhem Bell 407 GXi, AW119 ou twin como AW109/H135. R66 fica restrito a VFR day/night, limitação que não é problema para training, lazer e turismo, mas elimina alguns nichos profissionais.
A Robinson certificou em 2018 o R66 Marine, versão com floats pop-out emergency e proteção contra corrosão para operação costeira/marítima. Popular em turismo (Maldivas, Caribe, Tailândia) e em operações de pesca esportiva no Atlântico. Existe também variante R66 Police com FLIR/searchlight e R66 Newscopter para jornalismo.
