O EC120/H120 é o único helicóptero entry-level turbine que oferece Fenestron de fábrica, concorrentes Bell 206B, R66 e Bell 505 usam rotor de cauda convencional. Vantagens: ruído externo 50% menor, segurança em solo (rotor fechado em duto), e visual moderno mais aceito em VIP/urbano. Trade-off: peso adicional do duto reduz payload em ~30 kg vs. equivalente sem Fenestron, e custo de fabricação maior.
O H120 tem custo operacional ~USD 540/h, competitivo para single-turbine, embora não tão baixo quanto R66 (USD 460/h). Motor Arrius 2F com TBO de 4.000h e overhaul ~USD 200k é razoável. Cabine 5 PAX com Fenestron e cabine quieta posiciona como upgrade VIP do R66 (steam gauges) e do Bell 505 (rotor 2-pás). Operadores corporate europeus que querem entry-level Fenestron escolheram EC120 entre 2000-2015.
O motor Arrius 2F do H120 entrega apenas 504 shp, performance hot/high é modesta vs. concorrentes (R66 com RR300 também 504 shp tem hover OGE 10.000 ft; H120 tem 8.800 ft). Em altitudes brasileiras altas (Brasília, BH em verão) com payload completo, hover OGE pode ficar marginal. Para operação em altitude/calor extremo, H125 com Arriel 2D (952 shp) é alternativa preferida.
Eurocopter (depois Airbus Helicopters) padronizou em EC120/H120 como helicóptero de treinamento principal de seu Eurocopter Training Center (Donauwörth, Marignane, Grand Prairie). Pilotos transitioning de pistão para turbinas usam H120 como step intermediário antes de avançar para AS350/H125 ou H135. Frota training Airbus em 2024 ainda passa de 30 H120, testemunho da confiabilidade do design para missões intensivas.
